the ensemble

Located at 258 Avenida 5 de Outubro, the door number of the Instituto Gregoriano de Lisboa lends the name to the ensemble founded by André Ferreira, Maria Bayley and Teresa Duarte. Three musicians born in the Lisbon school, the impact of their initial training left a positive mark on their lives. Having followed similar musical paths, spending several years of study in the Netherlands and always with a great interest in older repertoires and historically informed praxis, the formation of an ensemble dedicated to the interpretation of Baroque music was a clear choice. Ensemble 258 aims to recover European musical heritage, always paying careful attention to the sources, contexts and forms of interpretation of the time. It aims to give priority to the performance of music by great authors and to promote lesser-known works and composers. And finally, recover the idea of the musician as a multi-instrumentalist, leaving aside notions of hyper-specialization and taking advantage of the broad and rich perspective given by interpreting works from various points of view, always with the aim of transmitting it to the public.
